Crime Drama Review 06/02/2012

Hustle
The 'Hustle' is a very different crime drama as it show you how the criminals and police work but from the criminal's aspect.the show ' hustle' is about a group of very good con artists, coning criminals and giving them a taste of their own medicine.
Fridays episode was quite a complex episode but the enjoyment side of it makes it easier to watch and keeps you focused on the story line and what is happening.
it started off with 'Sean Kennedy' at a casino playing poker and winning but he won because he is famous for card counting. then the man chases him to get his money back, Sean gives him the £5000 worth of chips back  , but then the man say he will buy the other £40,000 worth of chips off him for £20,000 and Sean agrees.what the man didn't realize is that the chips Sean Kennedy gave him were fake and cannot be cashed in. It turns out that the lady who spotted him was hired as part of the con. when the gang's friend suddenly suffers from a heart attack. the team find out that she has been the victim of a sham diet plan called 'Eat Yourself Slender'. The people behind this scam are Dean and Dana Deville a couple of glossy american con-artists who only care about and will do anything to get it. Mickey the gangs leader knows it is not easy to con a con merchant but  but he knows every inch of he con world and know what they have to do for the con to be successful. he has to gain their trust and make them sure that the there is nothing dodgy going on then.
The plan for the con was to steal a piece of art work that they want and then once they have done that, to steel a medical drink that helps you lose 6 stone  in 6 weeks. But Sean Kennedy gets arrested on suspicion that he stole the art piece so the team decide not to go along with the other half of the con. But the Devilles are determined to get this medical recipe so they do the theft them selves. They refuse to give Mickey the £250,000 he wants for planning the robbery, but what they didn't realize was that mickey attached a camera to Dana broach and have the whole robbery on film. so they have to give mickey the money.
The artwork is put back in the gallery but in a different place so that it looks like it has been misplaced, which means they cant charge Sean for the crime.

Crime dramas like 'Hustle' that are based on the criminal side of things are good as it shows you how these things are done and how criminals. people stereo type criminals as being dumb thief's with no GCSE's who just want to cause trouble. But to be a Con - Merchant you have to be very smart.
In the hustle 'gang' one of the main con artists is a woman which suggests that women are just as good criminals as men and that you should be careful who you deal with as you never tell who is a criminal.

This program does use the conventions of a typical crime drama like:

  • Flashbacks
  • Setting
  • Professions (inspectors, police officers)
  • Restrictive narrative
